SACRED MEDICINE

Laughter is sacred medicine, eternal wisdom, a powerful spiritual tool for creating well-being, and it is freely available to all.

Laughing simply to feel happy is a profound experience. Laughing for no reason is a great meditation.
Laughter is highly contagious; it is the best medicine to heal physical, psychological, and social wounds.

Our body-being is shaped not only by the food we eat, but by every emotion and feeling we experience each day.Research shows that regular laughter induces significant positive physiological effects.
It is now prescribed as a lifestyle medicine that is natural, free, and without side effects.
Growing evidence suggests that laughter, even as a physical activity, can produce measurable psychological, physiological, and sociological benefits.

Just like spontaneous laughter, self-induced laughter without humor, can offer the same healing effects.Studies link laughter and humor to increased pain tolerance.
Physiologically, laughter boosts the immune system, improves circulation, increases oxygen intake, protects heart health, and relaxes the muscles.
Psychologically, it reduces stress hormones and elevates mood-enhancing chemicals that help combat depression.
Laughter may also improve memory and creativity. It triggers feel-good hormones, healing enzymes, and beneficial biochemistry throughout the body.
Laughter strengthens social bonds. Sharing a laugh forges deeper relationships.
It brings people closer, creates emotional distance from difficult situations, and helps resolve disagreements.
When we feel good, we see our problems differently and solutions arrive with ease.

Laughter is a divine gift to humanity.

I’m reminded of the Zen monk Budai, who lived in the 10th century. His name means “cloth bag,” and he always carried one filled with gifts.
Affectionately known as the Laughing Buddha, Budai had a chubby, cheerful face and laughed often.
He believed life’s challenges could be met more easily when one remained in a pleasant state.
He understood that the tones and energies of laughter could bring grand healing and restoration to creation.
Budai traveled from place to place, sharing gifts from his sack with those in need.
His generous smile and laughter drew people like magnets to his presence.
When they gathered, he would distribute his gifts, then gaze at the sky and laugh wildly.
His laughter was so contagious that everyone around him would begin laughing too, madly, joyfully, for no reason at all.
In those moments, he brought happiness, healing, and enlightenment.

Even today, his legacy is revered worldwide. His statue, a chubby man with a huge laughing face and a knapsack, is found in homes and temples everywhere.
He is honored as a symbol of happiness, abundance, and contentment.

Today, many methods can help us invite laughter into our lives:
Telling jokes, sharing funny stories, practicing laughter yoga, playing with pets or little children.
Even forcing yourself to laugh, especially when you don’t feel like it, surprisingly can lead to genuine, hearty laughter.
Laughing at your own fake laugh can be the perfect spark to begin.

Blessings!
