INFINITY WALK

-Ancient Energy Medicine

The ancient practice of infinity walk was introduced to humanity by Tamil Siddhars in the 3rd century BCE as energy medicine to heal body and mind.
The infinity walk is a type of walking done by tracing a pattern of the number ‘8’ or the infinity symbol.
The 8-shaped walking is one of the many powerful walking techniques.
It is a dynamic exercise that promotes holistic development.
It is a therapy for both the body and the mind.

This walking exercise rejuvenates your body, the intake of oxygen while walking helps you to feel relaxed and energized.
Since you walk through the twists and turns of the 8-shaped path, you improve your concentration, you develop postural control and have better coordination, balance and stability.
The 8-shaped walking enhances eye and neck movement and also activates the right and left hemispheres of the brain.
It is said to promote communication between the two hemispheres improving neuro-muscular coordination, focus and sensory motor skills.
Since people have to focus intently they are distracted from feeling low or depressed.
Certain tests have also shown that this method of walking burns calories and helps in weight loss.

The infinity walk was initiated in the mid 1980s by a clinical psychotherapist, Dr. Deborah Sunbeck.
Dr. Sunbeck adapted the method to facilitate integrated healing and self-develpment for her patients.
In the 1990s occupational therapists, optometrists, and physical therapists also adapted this technique from Dr. Sunbeck’s research.

According to the ancient Siddhars of 3rd century BCE, this infinity walk was a remedy for the influence of the planet Saturn on one’s astrological chart.
The 8-shaped walk was a personalized ritual that helped to relieve mental and physical restlessness.
The Siddhars advised people to practice the walk everyday if possible and especially on the days when the planet Saturn’s influence is higher than usual.

The 8-shaped walking is energy medicine and it helps to activate the chakras and thus rejuvenate all internal organs of the body.
It relieves stuffy or blocked nose, aids in digestion, improves eyesight, helps heal headaches, stiff joints and arthritis.
The physical movement of hips, ankles, pelvis, knees, shoulders and head will benefit considerably more than from a normal linear walk.
The 8-shaped walk is also easy to do in your room if you are working from home.
Also if you are not able to go out for a walk you can complete your daily 10,000 steps within a small space in your home with this walking technique.

The 8-shped walk technique:
Usually the direction of the walk as advised by the Siddhars is South to North direction.
So you can check with a compass and start walking from South to North, so you would be facing North.
To mark your path, you can also place two objects 3 feet apart and just go around them or you can mark or create a 8-shaped pattern on the floor, or imagine an 8-shaped path and start walking on your bare feet so that the acupressure points in your feet activate your internal organs.
Do the walk with focus and awareness. Leave your phone aside when you do the walk.
Start walking for 10 or more minutes clockwise and then reverse and walk 10 or more minutes anti-clockwise.
You can also practice simple breathing exercises to keep you focused.
Walking on an empty stomach also enhances the practice.

A person walking the infinity walk is not likely to feel dizzy because it is performed only at one’s own comfortable speed.
Those with knee issues can wear a knee support if you want while trying this walk.
Beginners should walk slow and increase the pace gradually.
Blessings!
