CELEBRATING WOMEN’S DAY
International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern and motivate society and political will to provide resources to address the concern.
Today March 8th is an international day to acknowledge and respect women’s rights.
Women and girls make up half of the world’s population, yet most often their contributions and experiences are undervalued and overlooked.
Globally in most countries women are still underpaid, they face gender based violence at home and also in the world outside, they do not have equal status in educational, economic or political fields.
All humans around the world are entitled to human rights. And women are also entitled to the rights to live free from discrimination, domestic violence, sexual violence, to have access to physical and mental health care, to own property, to have good education, to vote and to earn an equal wage.
This day is celebrated around the world for the rights, equality and empowerment of women all over the world.
So wherever you are in the world today please appreciate the women and girls in your life, donate to a women-focused charity, help in financial empowerment of the women in your families, include women and girls in decision making, read about the achievements of women around the world.
May this women’s day be a day of empowerment for women and girls around the world.
