ENERGY MEDICINE – GRATITUDE
We all know how to express and experience gratitude. In this busy modern world we need reminders that uplift us.
Neuropsychological research of these last two decades have identified amazing benefits to the health of the human body and mind by practicing the feelings of gratitude.
Recent studies in Neuroscience reveals that the attitude of gratitude helps the brain to release chemicals that create mental and physical well being. There is an overwhelming connection between gratitude and good health.
According to a Positive Psychology study article, the research done by neuroscientists in 2014 revealed that gratitude is a ‘natural antidepressant.’ When practiced daily gratitude has the same effect as medications.
The physiological basis lies at the neurotransmitter level.
Practice of gratitude acts as a catalyst to release dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine from the brain which are crucial neurotransmitters responsible for managing anxiety and stress responses and bring in emotions that make us ‘feel good.’
As gratitude regulates the level of dopamine in the brain our body fills with vitality thereby reducing feelings of pain.
Participants of the scientific studies who practiced gratitude and appreciation showed a marked reduction in the level of the stress hormone, cortisol.
Their cardiac functioning was excellent.
Reduction in stress hormones removes symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Cognitive restructuring happens and the person becomes more empathetic and positive minded by nature.
Studies also show that giving and displaying the attitude of gratitude activates the hypothalamus of the brain.
Hypothalamic regulation triggered by gratitude helps us get deeper and healthier sleep naturally everyday.
Scientists have also found that just 10 minutes of gratitude practice everyday begins to release a chemical called immunoglobulin A , the primary defense against bacteria and viruses in the body.
Practicing gratitude impacts our physical and psychological well-being in amazing ways.
Gratitude exercises are vital for our very existence.
Simple exercises that can be done everyday:
1. Gratitude Note Book: Create a personal diary, and sit with it everyday to express gratitude for things in life that you feel grateful for.
2. Self appreciation: Creator never makes mistakes. You are a grand creation of the Creator. Show gratitude for your being. Make it a practice to say at least five good things about yourself, standing in front of your mirror.
3. Make Gratitude buddies: Find a friend or family member with whom you can set aside a few minutes everyday to sit together and discuss things you are grateful for.
4. Gratitude Jar: Take an empty glass jar, keep small pieces of paper and a pen near it. Make it a practice to write at least one thing that you are grateful for in life on a piece of paper and fold and put it into the jar. As the jar fills up your joy increases and you feel blessed.
Sweet friends, love yourself enough to practice gratitude diligently and experience this miracle medicine.
Blessings!
