A REMINDER TO SELF
BECOME AN EXAMPLE
A good teacher does not make many students, a good teacher is one who can make teachers of her students.
Imitating is a common behavior among humans.
As humans we tend to mimic the gestures of people whom we like, this is done subconsciously most of the time.
This human behavior has created cultures and societies for eons, where a group of individuals with common interests come together in agreement.
Scientists say that it is the neuron in our brain which make us repeat actions.
This neuron is responsible for making children learn to imitate their parent’s actions even before they learn to talk.
When I was in middle school i used to travel by bus that had seats for passengers facing each other. One evening while coming back home in the bus, I started yawning, suddenly I noticed two other people sitting opposite to me also yawn. Then I observed this the next day also, it became a fun game to me that whenever there are people around me sitting silently I try to yawn and immediately I see many of them start yawning.
The same thing happens with laughter, when we hear children laugh or someone laugh even when you do not know the reason you start laughing or giggling yourself.
When I was teaching school, I saw that my students imitated me, they even carried a purse under their arms just like I did. This made me realize that the true teaching is not through words but showing through example.
The best way to inspire and build trust is to lead by example. Live the principles do not teach them make your life an example. Be very mindful because actions do speak.
If you want your students or your team to listen to you, be the first person to give them your listening ear.
If you want respect then be the first one to treat everyone with respect irrespective of their age, status, or rank.
If you want your children to take responsibility, stop all blame games and excuses, accept the mistakes and fix the situation in a better way.
Know that there is talent hidden in every individual and as a teacher or leader, you are here in this very moment to help them bring it out, so stop micromanaging, step back and allow your team to perform their best.
Leading by example is the best way to build values of compassion, responsibility, integrity, optimism, respect, and courage.
Leading by example is a perfect universal signal.
Living our truth, walking our talk, leading by example, we become ambassadors of peace and harmony on this planet.
Blessings!
