A REMINDER TO SELF
THE LABYRINTH -A WALKING MEDITATION
Our life is a sacred journey. It is all about growth, discovery, taking courageous challenges, accepting and choosing change, transformation, creating grander visions, listening to intuition, and creating greater solutions.
When we are in our center, in our sacred space, connected to our inner being, we realize the sacred experiences of our life’s journey; we see ourselves in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing; helping us in moving.
A labyrinth is a spiritual tool that helps one to enter into the sacred space of connection with one’s inner being.
It is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It is an archetype with which we can have direct experience with the God within us.
When we face problems , we can use the labyrinth to help solve it. When there is a need to discover spiritual meaning or find inspiration, a labyrinth can be of service.
A labyrinth represents our life’s journey, when we walk the labyrinth it creates a sacred space for us to help us get out of our egos and connect with our Divine Presence within.
When troubled by disturbing emotions or unfortunate events in life, walking a labyrinth can help resolve our inner discomfort and still our mind enough for us to get clarity of what is going on.
The labyrinth can be walked by foot or by fingers. We can draw a labyrinth on paper or on the ground.
A labyrinth looks like a human brain, its purpose is to bring union to the right and left brain hemispheres there by releasing distracted thoughts and bring in greater solutions to problems.
The labyrinth can work with us as a most effective tool if we are willing to choose to let go, relax, and allow union with our Divine Presence within. This brings in many “aha” moments and helps us to tap into the wellspring of wisdom that is within us.
Labyrinths are easy to construct on paper..
It is very important to create a sacred meditative space while constructing and using this tool.
This YouTube link shows the method of constructing a labyrinth on paper:
This link shows step by step method of drawing the 7 circuit labyrinth. Try it, it is quiet simple.
The 7 circuit labyrinth is the tool I teach in my classes for my students. It is easy to draw on paper.
Once you draw it on paper, you create a silent space for yourself to sit with your labyrinth and finger walk it or trace it with your pointing finger from the outer end of the labyrinth to the center.
The labyrinth is a unicursal line, which means a one line, or one path that takes you to the center and back out. The path twists and turns on itself many times before reaching the center. Once you are in the center, there is only one way back out.
When you use the pointing finger of your non-dominant hand, it makes you focus better. Focus on the process of taking slow and deliberate steps as you move through the labyrinth. Take your time. It is a walking meditation. A time you invest for your evolvement in life.
Bring to your mind a prayer or spiritual question to contemplate during the walk. Reaching the center pause and listen, you have reached the stillness where you are at one with your inner being. This space opens you to your inner wisdom.
You receive great revelations and answers as you move through your life everyday, the answers fall into place in amazing ways.
Draw and experience the labyrinth, create this sacred tool for yourself. Love yourself enough to bring yourself to your center, your sacred space and enjoy the peace irrespective of what is happening around you.
Blessings!
